Medicare Rebates for Podiatry

Can I get a Medicare rebate for Podiatry?

Yes*. Now, let’s break down the asterisk.

* In certain situations, your GP may place you under a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM). This is an an initiative where those eligible may be able to receive Medicare benefits to help cover the cost of Podiatry care in order to manage their condition. You may also hear it being referred to it by its former name of Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Programme.

What is the criteria to get access to Podiatry under Medicare?

Firstly, your GP will determine if you are eligible for the programme, but it is principally centered around people with a chronic medical condition. Some conditions covered by the initiative that ProPodiatry Clinic can help with include diabetes, and musculoskeletal conditions. You can read more about the CDM here. Consult with your GP to better determine your eligibility.

Secondly, once you’ve been assessed, you will need to have an appropriate referral form from your GP who will need to send you to a specific podiatry clinic - hopefully ProPodiatry Clinic Brunswick or South Melbourne - as we would love to help!

How many Podiatry visits will the Medicare CDM rebate cover?

You will be allowed a total of up to five (5) rebated consultations to any referred allied health practitioner each year.

How Much Does the Medicare Rebate Cover?

As at Jun 2023, the Medicare rebate covers $56 per consult. The remainder of the small gap will need to covered by you. For the latest rebate amount visit here.
