Tackling Winter with the right footwear

It’s that time of the year again. Daylight savings has ended, the days feel sorted and darker and soon we will have the rain to match it all.

As we head into Autumn and transition into winter, have you thought about your footwear? We often talk about the importance of looking after your feet during the hot Australian summer but what about the Melbourne winter. Here are some considerations for when you choose your footwear this season.

  1. Do your shoes have enough room in them to be able to a thicker pair of socks for the winter?

  2. Are the soles of your shoes appropriate for this time of year or are they worn out?Do your shoes have a good grip? If they are thinning, take them to your local shoemaker to give them a makeover.

  3. Are your shoes weather appropriate? Shoes that are made of weather will keep your feet warm and dry. Another such material is Gore-tex, this repels liquid water while allowing water vapor to pass through, this is most commonly found in shoes that are for the outdoors (like hiking) as opposed to office wear.

You spend so much time on your feet, so we always recommend to invest in a good pair of shoes. A pair of good shoes will last you a good couple of years and may only need to be re-soled every so often.
